Who we are

This website, https://daniellebernice.com, is run by Danielle Bernice Ministries. We are responsible for the personal data described in this policy (the “data controller” under the GDPR).

You can reach us at info@daniellebernice.com with any question about your data.

We think protecting your privacy matters, and we have tried to write this policy in plain language rather than legal boilerplate. It explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do about it.

Please note: the coaching practice has its own separate privacy statement. If you are using those services, that policy applies to you rather than this one.

What we collect and why

When you send us a message

Our contact form and our “Your Bible Questions” form ask for your name, email address, and your message. These submissions are emailed to us; they are not stored in a database on this website.

We use this information only to answer you.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
How long we keep it: up to 24 months after our last contact with you, after which the message is deleted. If a conversation continues, the clock starts again from the most recent message.

When you subscribe to our newsletter

If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your name and email address. Signup uses double opt-in: you will receive an email asking you to confirm, and you are only added to the list once you click that confirmation. If you never confirm, your address is discarded.

Because of the nature of this website, subscribing may reveal something about your religious interests. We ask for your consent on that basis and use your address only to send you the newsletter you asked for.

Our newsletter is sent using MailerLite, which stores subscriber data on our behalf.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), and Art. 9(2)(a) where religious belief may be implied.
How long we keep it: until you unsubscribe. Every newsletter contains an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed.

When you donate

Donations are handled by Stripe. Your payment details are entered directly into Stripe’s systems and never reach our servers. We receive only confirmation that a donation was made, along with the information needed for our records.

Legal basis: performance of a transaction you requested (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legal obligation to keep financial records (Art. 6(1)(c)).
How long we keep it: as required by Dutch tax law, currently seven years.

Cookies and analytics

We ask for your consent before placing any non-essential cookie. You can change or withdraw that choice at any time using the cookie preferences link on our site.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use our articles. It is only loaded if you accept statistics cookies; if you decline, it does not run at all.

We have configured it as privacy-friendly as the tool allows: IP addresses are anonymised, we have accepted Google’s data processing terms, and we have turned off the setting that would let Google use our analytics data for its own products and services.

Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Statify

We also use Statify, a visitor counter that runs entirely on our own server. It sets no cookies, stores no IP addresses, and sends nothing to any third party. Because it cannot identify anyone, it needs no consent.

Embedded content and third-party services

YouTube videos

Many of our articles include videos from our YouTube channel. These are blocked until you consent: you will see a placeholder where the video would be, and it only loads once you accept. Once loaded, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect data about your interaction, as described in their own privacy policy.

Scripture references (RefTagger)

Bible references in our articles are turned into links with hover-over text by RefTagger, a service provided by Faithlife. This loads a script from Faithlife’s servers, which means your IP address is visible to them when you read an article containing a scripture reference.

Social sharing buttons

The sharing buttons on our articles are built with Shariff, which was designed specifically to protect privacy. They are ordinary links: nothing is sent to Facebook, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Pinterest or any other platform unless you actually click one.

Other embedded content

Articles may include other embedded material such as images or videos from third-party sites. Embedded content from another website behaves as though you had visited that site directly, and those sites have their own privacy policies which we do not control.

Spam protection and site security

We receive a significant volume of automated spam and bot signups. To keep our forms usable, we use:

hCaptcha, provided by Intuition Machines, Inc., which checks whether a form was filled in by a person or a program. It analyses signals such as your IP address, how long you have been on the page, and mouse movements. In invisible mode this happens in the background without showing you a challenge.
Legal basis: our legitimate interest in protecting this website from abuse, spam and automated attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Who processes data on our behalf

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do share it with the service providers we need in order to run this website:

Each of these is bound by an agreement requiring them to process data only on our instructions and to keep it secure.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so, or where it is necessary to protect our rights or the safety of others.

International transfers

Several of the providers above are based in the United States, including Google, CleanTalk, Intuition Machines, Faithlife and Stripe. This means your data may be transferred outside the European Economic Area.

Where that happens, transfers are covered by the safeguards those providers have in place, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

How we protect your information

Our website runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection, so information you send us is encrypted in transit. Access to our systems is limited to people who need it, and our website software and plugins are kept up to date.

No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to keep your information safe and to limit what we collect in the first place.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Correct it if it is wrong
Erase it (“right to be forgotten”)
Restrict or object to how we use it
Receive a copy in a portable format
Withdraw consent at any time, where our use is based on consent

To exercise any of these, email info@daniellebernice.com. We will respond within one month.

Some data we may need to keep despite an erasure request — financial records required by tax law, for example.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your data, you have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
